While God had promised Abram an abundant progeny, he and Sarah were still childless following his encounter with Melchizedek. Abram offered a solution. According to the custom of the day, he proposed making a servant born in his household the heir of his estate.
“Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he (Abram) believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness.
