Our Help Is In the Name of the Lord
Today’s Texts: Psalm 124; Isaiah 41
YOM HASHOAH: Holocaust Remembrance Day
Throughout Israel’s history, the Jewish people have repeatedly stood on the brink of extinction at the hands of evil men. While David eloquently acknowledges God’s preservation of the Jewish people, in the second Scripture passage, the prophet Isaiah assures that God is aware of all they have had to endure.
PSALM 124:1-8
“’If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,’
Let Israel now say—
‘If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
When men rose up against us,
Then they would have swallowed us alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us;
Then the waters would have overwhelmed us,
The stream would have gone over our soul;
Then the swollen waters
Would have gone over our soul.’
Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us as prey to their teeth.
Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers;

“Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.” Psalm 124:6-7
The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.”
ISAIAH 41:10-11
“‘Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Behold, all those who were incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced;
They shall be as nothing, and those who strive with you shall perish.”
God continues to prove His faithfulness in keeping the promises He made to the nation of Israel. Despite targeted efforts of the Nazi regime to destroy the Jewish people in the last century and ongoing threats of the present day, God declares His Chosen People will continue to thrive as a vibrant presence in the world today and into eternity (Gen. 17:7).
