The Bible is the FOUNDATION for life.

Today we have access to information with the click of a button. Consequently, many live in a state of panic bombarded with reports of political crises, catastrophic events, terrorism, economic failure, crime, war and the actions of unscrupulous leaders. How should these realities affect the person of faith?

PSALM 112:1, 4-7

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.

Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness

He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

A good man deals graciously and lends;
He will guide his affairs with discretion.

Surely, he will never be shaken;
The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.

He will not be afraid of evil tidings;
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

People of faith who fear the Lord are blessed and able to sustain a state of well-being regardless of the intensity of life’s circumstances.

The psalmist affirms that the Word of God gives light and provides insight for the upright to see clearly in a world shrouded in darkness (Ps. 119:105). Consequently, as suggested by the Hebrew grammar, people of faith are like a light in a dark world (cf. Mt. 5:14).

Stirred to the core by the needs of others, people of faith act with determination to provide hope. With a gracious demeanor and heart of compassion, people of faith do what is right in responding to the urgency of demands in the crisis of the moment (Ps. 112:4).

You do not have to be shaken by unexpected circumstances or panicked by threatening trends. Why? Because your heart can be anchored in the principles of God’s Word. Your sense of well-being is not dependent on media reports, forecasts or projections; you do not have to be shaken by adversity because you can choose to implicitly trust the Lord.

Life in the 21st century is often uncertain and challenging. That reality doesn’t have to destroy your sense of peace. Today, determine to be a light in the world—someone who is stirred to action, but never shaken by adversity.
