Putting Life Into Perspective
Today’s Text: Jeremiah 9:23-24
The words of Jeremiah the prophet put life’s values in perspective:
Thus says the Lord:
“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches.
But let him who glories glory in this:
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the Lord.
Although man boasts about his acquired knowledge, power and wealth, the measure of success is superfluous to one essential. We can understand and know God (v. 24).
We who enjoy a relationship with God recognize that He always does what is right and is absolutely just in all His actions, in spite of the uncertainty inherent in life. Not only do these qualities characterize God’s ordering of world events throughout history, they also define His involvement in our day-to-day experience.
Let His greatness compel you to invest time and energy to make knowing God the priority of your life!
