PASSOVER: Remember His Marvelous Works

Remember His Marvelous Works
Today’s Text: Psalm 105:1-12
PASSOVER

Israel’s deliverance from Egypt was more than God simply freeing His Chosen People from bondage. In a wonderful display of power that echoed throughout the ancient world, God took Israel to the land promised as an everlasting possession to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

PSALM 105:1-12

Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
Seek the Lord and His strength;

Seek His face evermore!

Remember His marvelous works which He has done,

His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
O seed of Abraham His servant,

You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.

He remembers His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”
When they were few in number,
Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

God’s unique relationship with Israel is highlighted in this psalm of David that was written on the occasion of bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. The psalm, however, goes beyond the reminder of God’s faithfulness to Israel. King David’s directives prompt action for all readers.

The story of the Exodus has been retold during the celebration of Passover since God first commanded the observance. That Jewish people have annually remembered God’s marvelous works is nothing short of amazing. When coupled with the realty of modern Israel, however, that fact is miraculous.

Use today to do what the psalmist suggests. Determine to discuss God’s “deeds” and “wondrous works” with regard to Israel as you interact with family, friends and co-workers. God’s faithfulness to the nation of Israel is a reason for Christians to rejoice and share with everyone we know.
